'True Beauty' duo Cha Eun-woo, Mun Ka-young in talks for 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' spin-off

Will Cha Eun-woo and Mun Ka-young — the legendary couple who built a massive global following as Soo-ho and Joo-kyung in the 2020 hit "True Beauty" — share the screen once again?

Fantagio, the agency representing Cha Eun-woo and Mun Ka-young, confirmed to The Korea Herald on Thursday that both stars are currently reviewing offers for "Seorabeol Knife" — a new series set in the same fictional universe as the 2025's global phenomenon “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty."

The culinary romance centers on a popular Italian chef and Princess Deok-young, a role reportedly offered to Mun. Cha has reportedly been offered the role of the chef. Further details, including the series’ release date, have yet to be disclosed.

The series has drawn attention following the announcement that it will share the same fictional universe as “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,” the fantasy rom-com starring Lee Chae-min and Lim Yoon-a, which became a global streaming success following its release in 2025.

Jang Tae-yoo, who directed “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,” is set to return to direct “Seorabeol Knife.”

If both actors sign on, “Seorabeol Knife” would reunite Cha and Mun nearly six years after they starred together in tvN’s “True Beauty.”

Adapted from the popular webtoon of the same name, “True Beauty” premiered in 2020 and became a global streaming hit. Mun played Joo-kyung, a high school student who uses makeup to transform her appearance, while Cha portrayed Soo-ho, her love interest who falls for her even after seeing her without makeup.

For Cha, “Seorabeol Knife” would also mark his first potential acting project since a controversy over his tax payments emerged in April. The amount was initially reported at 20 billion won ($14 million). He faced public scrutiny over his use of corporate structures, including a talent management company under his mother’s name and an eel restaurant, which were reportedly used in ways that reduced his tax liabilities.

The amount was later revised to 13 billion won following a review of overlapping tax categories. Cha paid the final assessed amount in full on April 9.
