North Korea fired one short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea on Thursday, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The military said it detected the launch at around 5 p.m. from the area of Wonsan, Kangwon Province, on North Korea's east coast.
The military did not immediately disclose details such as the type or flight range of the projectiles.
Thursday's launch marks North Korea's 10th ballistic missile launch event this year, coming 42 days since the North test-fired tactical ballistic missiles and other weapons on June 25.
"Our military has strengthened surveillance and vigilance in preparation for possible additional launches, while South Korea, the United States and Japan are closely sharing information on the North Korean ballistic missile and maintaining a full readiness posture," the JCS said.
