Details of the next project by Bong Joon-ho, the Oscar-winning director behind "Parasite," were unveiled Friday. It's an animated film titled “Ally.”
According to CJ ENM, which has invested in and will distribute the film, the story is set in the deep ocean and follows sea creatures fascinated by the human world above. It centers on Ally, a piglet squid that dreams of seeing the sun and appearing on TV, and its friends, whose peaceful lives are upended when a plane crashes into the ocean, drawing them into an unexpected adventure.
The screenplay is co-written by Jason Yu, known for the 2023 mystery horror film "Sleep."
Bong previously said he was preparing an animated project as his next work following “Mickey 17” (2025), which had been known under the working title “The Valley" and that development has been underway since 2019.
A release date has yet to be announced.
