The Seoul Museum of Craft Art said Friday that it will conduct academic research on modern wood lacquerware in its first- and second-generation crafts collections.

The study will examine 94 artworks created by 16 artisans and artists specializing in wood lacquerware, aiming to uncover the stories, techniques and historical context behind each piece.

The museum plans to publish the findings on its official website once the research is completed. Further details on the timeline and scope of the study will be announced later.

"(The museum) will collect and study the history of Korean crafts more precisely, as well as create more opportunities for crafts artists in the country to expand their global reach so that they could be more active and recognized in the international arena," Kim Soo-jung, the director of SeMoCA, said in a press release.
