Germany is getting ready to showcase the country’s futuristic marine technologies at the 2012 Yeosu Expo with its deputy ambassador to Korea introducing its planned pavilion at an event in Seoul on Wednesday.

“Expo 2012 Yeosu is very meaningful and important for Korea and Germany since both nations are closely related to the sea,” Johannes Regenbrecht, German deputy ambassador to Korea, said during a press conference.

The event’s motto is “Seavolution,” meaning preservation of the sea and sustainable growth, according to organizers.

The 1700 square-meter pavilion will feature exhibits on natural resources and a tsunami alert system as well as other themes, they said.

At the main showroom, a space where 3-D images of underwater life will be projected onto the walls, people will be able to experience marine life in a unique way, they added.

“The event will be successful as more than 100 people have been working on it since 2009,” German Pavilion commissioner general Dietmar Schmitz said.

The German press conference took place ahead of the expo taking place May 12-Aug. 12.

Participants at the press conference included German government officials and business figures, including Robert Muller, chairman of facts and fiction, Bernd Aufderheide of Hamburg Messe und Congress and Anthony de Taranto, chairman of GTP Architekten.
