The Dongbu Promy set a new record in the Korean Basketball League with its 16th straight win, beating the KCC Egis 86-71 on Saturday at the Jeonju Gymnasium.
Forward Kim Joo-sung led the Wonju side to victory with 17 points, and center Rodrique Benson added 14 points.
Benson also grabbed 13 rebounds to help the team break the league record of 15 consecutive wins set by Anyang SBS during the 2004-2005 season.
Dongbu started the game strongly with its trademark defensive quality, finishing the first quarter in a 19-6 lead. The team continued its dominance in the second quarter finishing it 42-24.
Up 62-33 in the third quarter, Dongbu’s manager Kang Dong-hee called out the first team players including Kim and Benson to the bench.
Dongbu has already secured the 2012 regular season title with a 42-7 record, sitting comfortably atop of the league table seven games ahead of runner-up Anyang KGC as of Sunday.
Dongbu Promy will look to continue its successive wins on Wednesday when it travels to Seoul to play SK Knights.
But Kang said that he will rest some of his key players for the game.
“I have to consider the players’ conditions to prepare for the playoffs,” he said.
The playoffs take place in March.
