The nation’s consumption of jjajang ramen and jjamppong ramen has seen a step increase in the past three years, E-Mart revealed Sunday.
The nation’s largest retail chain said the spicy-hot soup ramen accounted for 62.2 percent of its ramen sales as of Dec. 16. This was a fall of about 8 percent from two years ago.
But the sales of jjajang ramen, a non-soup type flavored with black bean paste, rose to 20.1 percent, up from 13.7 percent in 2013. The sales of jjamppong ramen, a soup-type ramen with spicy seafood flavor, also jumped to 10.6 percent, up from 8.3 percent in 2013.
“Apparently the regular (spicy-hot soup) ramen is selling less and the jjajang ramen and jjamppong ramen products are on the rise. We expect this trend to continue for a while,” an E-Mart official said.
