[Weekender] Incheon Airport ranks as best in world for 11 consecutive years

Incheon International Airport set another record by being named the world’s best airport for the 11th consecutive year, according to Global Traveler, a U.S. magazine for business travelers.

The magazine announced Tuesday that the airport grabbed the 2015 GT Tested Reader Survey Award as the best in the business, extending its own record-winning streak of 10 years, the Incheon International Airport Corporation said. Singapore Changi International Airport and Munich Airport were ranked second and third, respectively.

It is the 11th time that the airport has been given the award, a year after Incheon International Airport was listed on the “GT Hall of Fame” for receiving the award every year since 2006.

Officials from the IIAC received the award at a ceremony at the Peninsula Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

In addition to the Global Traveler’s award, Incheon Airport has also received 32 awards this year alone, both in Korea and abroad.

Notable awards include 10 consecutive years at the top in the Airport Service Quality rankings by Airports Council International, as well as consecutive nominations by Travel Trade Gazette and Skytrax for three and two years in a row, respectively.

The airport has also been recognized in other areas, such as its automatic boarding process, cargo distribution service and airport duty-free shopping.

In Korea, the airport has been nominated as the most respected company in Korea for eight years in a row, as well as being awarded the top ranked enterprise award by the Korea Sustainability Index for six consecutive years.

“I would like to express my thanks to the 40,000 airport staff and the people who make the airport an award winner,” said Incheon International Airport Corporation CEO Park Wan-su. “IIAC will try its best to continue its status as a first-class airport in terms of service and other areas.”
