The highway toll between Seoul and Incheon International Airport, the main gateway to South Korea, will be lowered by over 10 percent from the start of next month, the government said Monday.

Starting next Tuesday, the toll for a one-way trip to the airport or the capital will be lowered to 6,600 won ($5.50) from the current 7,600 won for mid-sized vehicles, including most passenger cars, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The one-way toll for both large and oversized vehicles, such as buses, will also be lowered by about 13 percent to 11,300 won and 14,600 won, respectively.

The ministry said the reduction will help travelers save some 390 billion won over the next 15 years.

Built and operated by a consortium of private firms, the airport highway has been accused of charging too high a toll.

The ministry noted the toll for the airport highway was 2.62 times higher than those built and managed by the state-run expressway corporation. (Yonhap)
