A 31-year-old South Korean woman was assaulted Tuesday by an Afro-American man with a deadly weapon, while traveling in New York, a South Korean diplomat said.

Her arm was hurt but the injury is not life-threatening, the diplomat said.

The incident took place as she was coming out of Bryant Park in Manhattan at around 11:30 a.m.

"She is conscious, not in a life-threatening condition, and hoping to return to South Korea," the official at the South Korean Consulate General here said.

The attacker in his 40s reportedly has a criminal record involving narcotics. (Yonhap)
