President Park Geun-hye met with her Bulgarian counterpart, Rosen Plevneliev, Thursday to discuss ways to boost cooperation in economy and other areas, an official said.

The summit came a day after Plevneliev arrived in Seoul for a three-day visit marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries.

Plevneliev has said that South Korea and Bulgaria will sign a number of memorandums of understanding aimed at developing their business and cultural ties.

He made the comments in a written interview with Yonhap News Agency ahead of his trip.

He has also called on South Korean high-tech firms to invest in his country, which he said is the "front door" to a single European market with a population of 500 million.

Last year, two-way trade between the countries amounted to $310 million. As of September 2014, South Korean investment in Bulgaria reached $263 million, while Bulgarian investment in South Korea came to $1.2 million. (Yonhap)
