Top companies in Korea reduced their advertising spending last year as profits continued to fall in the sluggish economy, according to a business watcher website Thursday.
Chaebul.com analyzed audit reports from 2013 and 2014 for the top 30 advertising spenders in Korea. Samsung Electronics, the largest spender, spent 743.8 billion won ($667.3 million) on promotions in fiscal 2014, a drop of 26.1 percent from the year before.
AmorePacific reduced its advertising expenses by 5.6 percent to 264.5 billion won despite a rise in operating profits and stock price.
The 30 companies that spent the most on advertising in fiscal 2014 reduced their promotional expenses by 4.3 percent to a total of roughly 5 trillion won.
