North Korean officials swore allegiance to their leader, Kim Jong-un, in a rally to mark former leader Kim Jong-il's 73rd birthday, the North's official media said Sunday.
During the rally held in Pyongyang, the capital of the country, Choe Ryong-hae, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party, pledged to safeguard current leader Kim Jong-un on behalf of other high-level officials, said the (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The rally was held ahead of the late Kim Jong-il's birthday, which is called "Day of the Shining Star," and falls on Feb. 16. Former leader Kim died in December 2011.
The latest meeting was attended by Hwang Pyong-so, chief of the general political bureau of the (North) Korean People's Army and Choe Tae-bok, the chairman of the country's Supreme People's Assembly, among others. (Yonhap)
