The Chinese state media CCTV aired a segment on the South Korean ad criticizing the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday.
The controversial ad titled “Do You Know Unit 731?” was posted on the Wall Street Journal website last Monday, including a photo of Abe giving a thumb up in a combat aircraft with “731” written on it.
The edited picture was carried along with an explanation of Japan’s Unit 731, which conducted medical experiments on Koreans and Chinese.
On news channel and CCTV-4, the Chinese broadcaster released a 3-minute-long video of an interview with Professor Seo Kyung-duk, a PR expert in promoting Korean culture who posted the ad at his own expense.
Seo’s WSJ ad is the second of the series, coming after the “Making Peace With History” ad that highlights the contrasting attitude of Germany and Japan in dealing with past wrongdoings. He is preparing a third ad on the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941.
Seo is renowned for campaigning against Japan’s distortion of history on Dokdo, comfort women and other issues on the international media outlets and tourist spots.
