National Assembly Speaker Rep. Kang Chang-hee on Friday warned political parties that he would put Board of Audit and Inspection chief nominee Hwang Chan-hyon’s confirmation to a vote on his authority as the speaker.

According to Saenuri Party floor leader Rep. Choi Kyung-hwan, Kang called on the ruling party to reach an agreement with the main opposition Democratic Party on the issue, saying he has the power to push the issue through should there be further delays.

The DP has been holding out on putting through Hwang’s appointment, saying the party will only process the issue if Minister of Health and Welfare nominee Moon Hyung-pyo resigns, citing alleged misuse of a corporate credit card for personal use.

DP floor leader Rep. Jun Byung-hun responded to Kang’s comments saying that such developments should not come to be and that it would be an “infringement of the National Assembly.”
