South Korea's National Assembly will hold the fourth round of hearings on Thursday to investigate a corruption scandal surrounding President Park Geun-hye and her confidante Choi Soon-sil
The hearing, however, will continue to face hurdles in securing crucial testimony, as key figures are unlikely to comply with the summons issued by the National Assembly.
The committee had summoned Chung Yun-hoi, Choi's ex-husband who worked for Park when the president was a lawmaker, to testify on Thursday, but the summons was not delivered as his whereabouts remain unknown.
Former presidential official Kim Han-soo, who is suspected to have provided a tablet PC to Choi, will also not attend the questioning. The scandal came to surface after a local broadcaster disclosed the files on the tablet PC presumed to be used by Choi, which held files of presidential addresses.
Previous sessions were criticized for failing to question Choi and other key figures in the scandal who refused to appear citing health issues. During the third hearing on Wednesday, key presidential staff presumed to be well aware of the ties between Park and Choi, also declined to show up. (Yonhap)
