A hanok retreat in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, has been named Best New Hotel at the Tatler Best Asia Pacific Awards 2026, just a year after opening.

The Hanok Heritage received the Best-in-Class distinction at a ceremony held Thursday at Yan Garden in Shanghai. It was the only Korean hotel to win the award.

Now in their third year, the awards are presented by Tatler Asia and recognize hotels, restaurants and bars across the Asia-Pacific region. More than 900 judges take part in the evaluation and voting, with establishments selected in their home markets going on to a further regional assessment.

Set on about 34 hectares in Mungaesil Village, the property overlooks the Seo River and Seondol cliff. It hosts 25 accommodations, including 20 rooms and suites and five private villas, along with Restaurant Monto, which serves Korean fine dining.

The Tatler win is the property's fourth international award. It previously won the 2024 Prix Versailles World Title in the hotels category, an IIDA Global Excellence Award and Robb Report Hong Kong's Best of the Best 2026 award for dramatic design.

"It is especially meaningful to be recognized alongside some of Asia's leading hotels just one year after opening. This recognition belongs to our team, whose dedication has been to create a special experience for every guest, and to the guests themselves, who have helped bring this place to life through their stays," said Cho Nam-hee, vice president of The Hanok Heritage.

The retreat plans to officially open Raonjae, a wellness facility with an indoor swimming pool, a dry sauna and a spa, in November. It is also preparing stay packages that combine cultural experiences and dining, as well as day programs for visitors not staying overnight.
