Uzbek government officials and university professors visited semiconductor substrate manufacturer Simmtech in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, Tuesday as part of a training program focused on semiconductor packaging and industrial cooperation.

The delegation toured the company’s headquarters and production facilities, where Simmtech officials introduced key production processes and explained how its manufacturing lines operate.

The visit was arranged by Hoseo University’s Graduate School of Management of Technology at the delegation’s request. The Korea-Uzbekistan program combines classroom instruction with on-site industrial training.

Organized by Uzeltechsanoat, Uzbekistan’s state electrical and electronics industry organization, and Korean tech startup Metaontech, the program aims to familiarize participants with Korean semiconductor manufacturing technologies and explore opportunities for industrial cooperation.

Hoseo and Soongsil universities provided educational and industrial training.

During the Simmtech visit, the delegation also discussed semiconductor technology trends and potential areas of cooperation between Korean and Uzbek businesses.

The program builds on Hoseo’s previous exchanges with Uzbek officials in university-industry cooperation and semiconductor technology.

In May 2025, Hoseo hosted Uzbek representatives for sessions on industry-academic partnerships, solutions to challenges encountered in industrial settings and venture creation. The visitors also toured the university’s semiconductor packaging fabrication facilities.

Hoseo said it aimed to strengthen ties with Uzbek policymakers while sharing its experience in semiconductor education, research and collaboration with private companies.

“We will expand our local networks to help small and medium-sized Korean semiconductor materials, components and equipment companies, as well as mid-sized firms, enter Uzbekistan and develop business opportunities in areas such as contract packaging, using the country as a gateway to European markets,” said Cheong Hee-woon, dean of Hoseo’s Graduate School of Management of Technology.

Hoseo said it plans to support further technology exchanges and commercialization efforts while helping Korean semiconductor companies establish business ties and develop new sales channels in Central Asia.
