One of South Korea’s most popular audition shows, "Superstar K," is set to return in 2027, 11 years after its last season, according to local reports.
Mnet reportedly plans to resurrect the series in 2027, with open recruitment slated to begin next month. The production aims to accept contestants regardless of age, gender, style, or citizenship. The season is tentatively titled “Superstar K 2027."
Debuting in 2009, "Superstar K" launched a nationwide craze for TV auditions via large-scale open tryouts for the general public. The platform helped establish famous musical acts, including Huh Gak, John Park, and Busker Busker, as well as Seo In-guk and Roy Kim.
However, interest and viewership gradually flagged across later installations. No new iterations were made after "Superstar K 2016," and the property was broadly assumed to have concluded after its seven-year stint.
Broadcaster Mnet told The Korea Herald that it currently has no official position or comment regarding the reported revival.
