Korean musical theater producer Shin Chun-soo of OD Company has teamed up with Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor on “The Grand Delusion,” a new musical that will have its world premiere in New York next year.

The show will run May 11 to June 6, 2027, at the 837-seat Harvey Theater at BAM Strong, part of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. BAM was founded in 1861 and is known for avant garde and experimental work outside commercial Broadway.

Taymor wrote the show and will direct it. The music is by composer Elliot Goldenthal, an Academy Award winner for the film “Frida” and a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Taymor was the first woman to win the Tony for best direction of a musical, for “The Lion King,” and is known for her puppetry and visual spectacle. The new production will combine choreography, stage design, puppetry and music.

The story moves between present-day New York and India, in a world where magic and myth exist side by side. Taymor was the first woman to win the Tony for best direction of a musical, for “The Lion King,” and is known for her puppetry and visual spectacle. The new production will combine choreography, stage design, puppetry and music into what the company described as an expanded sensory experience.

“It is deeply meaningful to unveil a work of such grand vision as ‘The Grand Delusion’ with Julie Taymor, a living master of contemporary performing arts,” Shin said in a statement.

Shin was the lead producer of the Broadway musical “The Great Gatsby,” which opened in 2024. OD Company said it will now begin full production on the new work.
