A 9-year-old boy recently notified the authorities of his father's abuse against his mother, by calling the police and placing an order for a bowl of jjajangmyeon noodles.
Officials at the Ansan Sangnok Police Station received an emergency call at around 6:18 p.m. on Oct. 4 from a multi-residential building in Sangnok-gu district of Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. The boy who called explained how many members his family had, and asked for jjajangmyeon.
Police response team realized something was wrong and continued the conversation, after which the caller explained that his father was trying to hit his mother.
Officials believe that the boy mentioned the noodles to hide the fact that he is calling the police.
The father, a man in his 40s, has since been charged with aggravated violence and violation of the Child Welfare Act, by police officers who arrived three minutes after the call.
It is believed that the suspect had inflicted physical and verbal abuse against the victim. Officials pressed charge of emotional abuse against children, as the attack occurred while the couple’s two children were watching.
The suspect has been temporary removed from the residence, and given a restraining order requiring him to stay at least 100 meters away from the victim.
