The the 2026 World Island Fair Yeosu, an international exhibition centered on islands, kicks off on Saturday in the southern coastal city of Yeosu.
The 61-day expo runs through Nov. 4 at the main venue and other locations across Yeosu, including Gaedo and Geumodo islands. A total of 133 performances will be staged alongside a range of exhibitions and hands-on programs.
As the country's first international exposition devoted exclusively to islands, the event explores island culture, ecology and livelihoods, as well as their potential in tourism and emerging maritime industries. Organizers expect the expo to attract 3 million visitors from 30 countries.
Some 5,000 visitors from Korea and abroad were expected to attend the opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the organizing committee.
