First offline beauty store enters Olive Young territory, with fashion on its side
In Seongsu-dong, a neighborhood that has long prized intimacy over scale, the old rules are giving way under mounting foot traffic. Into that moment steps Musinsa, now in its most outsized form yet.
On Friday, the country's leading fashion platform opened Musinsa Megastore Seongsu, the largest single fashion and beauty store in the country.
The four-story building, spanning 6,600 square meters, unfolds to be navigated, with its floor-to-floor curation of Korean fashion and beauty running the gamut from youth and street culture to formalwear and outdoor. Shop-in-shops rotate with the trends, keeping the floor plan in step with the market.
The clearest statement, though, comes on the second floor, where Musinsa sheds its online-only skin and steps into physical beauty retail for the first time.
The beauty push reads as a bold gambit with Olive Young's Seongsu flagship just streets away, which is a high-volume, experience-driven K-beauty landmark in its own right. The proximity makes comparison unavoidable, but Musinsa is playing a different game, where beauty folds into fashion’s core in a more tightly curated, expressive space.
"One notable feature is the Musinsa K-beauty ranking zone, where visitors can see top-performing products at a glance," a company official said during a media tour ahead of the opening on Thursday. “A separate Musinsa-exclusive section also highlights items available only through the platform.”
The space is built around what the company calls “next beauty,” not simply a reference to next-generation products, but to how they are presented, where fluid geometries and free-form fixtures defy rigid retail grids, guiding customers along a clearer throughline.
The company said the beauty floor carries around 7,500 items, in keeping with the space's scale, to offer a complete K-beauty experience.
Behind the scenes, the company is also building the infrastructure to back its K-beauty push. Musinsa has expanded its fulfillment service to cover beauty end-to-end, from inbound and sorting to packing and shipping, while rolling out free delivery, same-day dispatch and seven-day delivery across Seoul.
While fashion and beauty set the scene, what Musinsa is really building is something meant to hold people longer and make staying easy.
In the basement, “Musingsa”—a play on Musinsa’s name—serves as an entertainment zone for K-pop fans, where shoppers can record themselves at a coin-operated karaoke setup, themed at opening around NCT Wish, alongside a large media wall.
That sense of immersion carries upward. On the top floor, beneath a glass roof that filters in natural light, the store gives way to a food hall where visitors can move through a lineup that ranges from the Oslo-based coffee brand Fuglen to casual Korean street fare.
“We chose food brands that align with Seongsu’s sensibility,” the company official noted, “so people don’t just pass through, but settle into a rhythm that blends food and fashion.”
