An unidentified body believed to be that of a man was found in the Imjin River in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, on Thursday.
According to the Paju Police Station, the body was discovered at around 9:20 a.m. in the river. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and no belongings that could help identify the individual were found nearby.
Police, dispatched after receiving a report from a witness, recovered the body and are investigating to determine the identity.
Based on the location where the body was found, authorities are considering the possibility that the individual may be from North Korea, though this has not been confirmed.
A police official said the severe decomposition has made identification difficult. Police plan to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service.
