Cheong Wa Dae was crowded with visitors on election day Tuesday amid speculation that the new president may return to the former presidential office.
April and May recorded the highest number of visitors in the three years since the compound was opened to the public, according to Cheong Wa Dae Foundation.
Leading presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung has said he will begin his term at the Yongsan presidential office but plans to move into Cheong Wa Dae after renovations. Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party candidate, has pledged to continue using the Yongsan office.
The new president will assume office immediately after the inauguration on Wednesday.
