
A recent survey reveals that South Korean companies account for one out of every two global hair loss treatment cosmetic products. According to the Korean Intellectual Property Office, Korea has dominated international patent filings for hair loss treatment cosmetics over the past 22 years, from 2002 to 2023.
Korean companies have submitted 576 patent applications, representing 42.9 percent of the total 1,344 patents filed worldwide, securing the top position. Japan follows at No. 2 with 272 patents (20.2 percent ), while the United States ranks No. 3 with 231 patents (17.2 percent). China and the European Union round out the list with 119 patents (8.9 percent) and 104 patents (7.7 percent), respectively.
In terms of individual companies, Caregen leads the field with 115 patent applications for hair loss treatment cosmetics, closely followed by AmorePacific with 72 patents. LG Household & Health Care ranked fourth with 25 patents.
