Yoon Kab-keun, the legal representative of ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol, denounced the Constitutional Court’s unanimous decision to uphold Yoon’s impeachment as “unacceptable” and “deeply political,” voicing strong discontent with both the legal reasoning and the process leading up to the historic ruling.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the court’s announcement, Yoon Kab-keun expressed disappointment and frustration, saying, “The impeachment trial has been riddled with procedural irregularities from the very beginning. The court not only failed to adhere to due process but has now delivered a decision that cannot be justified on legal grounds.”
Describing the decision as one that “shattered” him, the attorney accused the justices of failing to consider the broader context of Yoon’s presidency.
“The justices should have looked at the forest when they made their decision, but they only saw the trees,” he said. “What should have been evaluated in light of the duties and complexities of presidential leadership was instead reduced to selective and narrow judgments.”
Calling the ruling “devastating,” he questioned its implications for South Korea’s future.
“I cannot help but feel deep concern about what this means for the Republic of Korea and its people. To see this is the direction we want our democracy and rule of law to head in the 21st century, it's just pitiful and tragic."
