College admissions offer cancelled in prank by classmate gone wrong

A 19-year-old who had gotten into Soongsil University had their admissions offer cancelled in a prank by a classmate from the same private education institute, or hagwon, a local news outlet reported Tuesday.

According to the Yonhap News Agency, the student had received a text message from the university that the process of refunding their tuition had been completed, although the student had not asked for the refund. The student explained the situation to the school and reported to the police the suspicion that their account had been hacked.

The student then received an Instagram message from a classmate at their hagwon, admitting to and apologizing for cancelling the university admissions offer as a prank. The classmate claimed not to have known what they were doing and vowed to do everything possible to call the university to explain the situation the next day.

The two students reportedly never even talked to each other while studying side by side in the hagwon's dormitory.

The incident was eventually resolved, as Soongsil University reviewed the case and decided to readmit the student.
