Police announced Tuesday that they have launched an investigation into a couple accused of throwing their dog out of a second-floor window while their 10-year-old son watched.

The Gimpo police said they plan to summon the couple for questioning. Authorities are reviewing legal options to determine whether the couple violated the Animal Protection Act or committed child abuse.

The incident gained widespread attention last week after the animal protection group WeAct released surveillance footage appearing to show the couple throwing the dog out of a corridor window.

"After witnessing his parents throw the dog, the 10-year-old immediately rushed downstairs as soon as they (parents) returned inside their home. The dog, which barely survived, suffered severe leg injuries," WeAct said in a statement.

According to WeAct, which rescued the animal, after six hours of discussions with the parents, the couple agreed to surrender ownership of the dog on the condition that no legal action would be taken against them.
