A woman who admitted to riding the train without paying the fare in the past came back to settle her 40-year-old debt, leaving 2 million won ($1,370) to ticket venders at Busan Station.
According to the BusanGyeongnam HQ of the Korea Railroad Corp., the unidentified woman came to a ticket booth at the station at around 7 p.m. on Sunday. She left an envelope without saying a word to the station employee, who opened the envelope and found 2 million won in cash.
Enclosed with the money was a letter, confessing to having committed fare evasion 40 years ago.
"I'm sorry. Forty years ago, I rode the train without paying the fare because I had no money. It's very late, but I'm paying back the fare I owe you. Once again, I'm sorry," she wrote in the letter.
Officials at Busan Station applauded the woman for having the courage to right her mistake from four decades ago. They said the money she left will be donated for the socially disadvantaged.
