Casual yet classic designs in knitwear and sweaters are winter's most beloved fashion staples. This trend reflects a shift in consumer preferences toward practicality and versatility in an economically challenging time.

According to LF Corp., the classic cable-knit crewneck sweater from the casual brand Hazzys has seen a remarkable 60 percent growth in sales compared to last year, signaling strong demand for timeless essentials.

In particular, cable-knit sweaters with collar designs and half-zips have enjoyed a 60 and 20 percent increase in sales, respectively. This surge indicates that consumers are increasingly drawn to basic yet stylish pieces that can offer both comfort and multiple styling options.

Similarly, Beanpole Men, the traditional casual brand under Samsung C&T Fashion Group, has introduced a cozy knit series using Shetland wool. Sales of this series have seen a 20 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year.

Fashion experts attribute this rise in popularity of knitwear and sweaters to “recession-driven” consumer behavior. As people reduce spending on expensive items like puffers and high-end coats, they are turning to more affordable and versatile options, such as knit sweaters.

The unusually late onset of cold weather this year has also led to a stronger emphasis on staple pieces, such as sweaters and jeans, which are easier to layer and style throughout the season.

“This cable-knit can be draped over the shoulders, tied around the waist, or layered over a shirt for a variety of chic looks,” said a 30-year-old female consumer who recently bought a cable-knit on W Concept, an online shopping platform.

Simple, minimalistic knit designs with fewer details are especially popular as they can easily pair with various outerwear options. Basic colors such as navy and gray remain in high demand.

In line with this trend, the "demure" look is gaining traction as more consumers seek essential items that offer both durability and style. The demure look, characterized by calm, muted colors, clean lines, and relaxed silhouettes, aligns with a modern consumer preference for thoughtful, quality purchases -- items that can be worn across multiple seasons. Colors like black, white, gray, beige and navy dominate this trend, which emphasizes practicality and understated elegance. Small accessories and shoes can be added to give subtle points of interest to these looks.

Contemporary brands like Lemaire, Auralee and Toteme have embraced the demure trend, offering practical yet elegant pieces such as comfortable knit sweaters, high-quality wool coats and blazers. These items cater to those seeking a sophisticated yet functional wardrobe.

Among the standout pieces this winter are scarf sweaters, which have made a notable appearance in the daily looks of fashion celebrities.

On the beauty front, glowing skin has become the season's most desired look, with glowing base makeup products leading the charge. The emphasis is on creating a dewy, fresh-faced complexion, using moisturizing base products to smooth the skin and applying subtle highlighters for a natural glow.

In eye makeup, the trend is to make a statement with chic, pointy accents using eye shadows in purple or burgundy hues, or with glitter to add some sparkle.

For cheeks this season, soft, natural blushes that lend a healthy, flushed look are providing a youthful radiance.

Similarly, lip trends lean toward toned-down shades like burgundy or brick red, moving away from brighter, more vibrant reds in favor of a more sophisticated and polished aesthetic.

This winter, the key to style is understated elegance, with a focus on versatile, timeless pieces that provide both practicality and sophistication.
