Korea’s largest telecommunications firm, KT, has signed a deal with Chinese media titan Hengdian Group to jointly build a smart theme park in China, which will incorporate information technology and cultural content.
At a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding Monday in Seoul, the two sides vowed to set up digital signage and beacons to connect devices, and deploy IT solutions to establish digital infrastructure at the theme park, mainly featuring video content, in Zhejiang province, south of Shanghai, KT said in a press release.
The Korean telecom firm will also collaborate with entertainment businesses and small ICT companies including YG Entertainment and HB Entertainment to develop 3-D video content and related technology.
“KT will make constant efforts to create businesses for future growth by collaborating with competent Korean ICT firms to tap the Chinese market,” KT CEO Hwang Chang-gyu said.
The theme park will also feature a K-pop hologram concert hall, called K-live, where spectators can enjoy performances of their favorite hallyu and Chinese stars in 3-D.
The joint project in China is expected to be a great boon for KT, which is turning its eyes to global markets for new growth momentum due to heated competition in the domestic telecom sector.
