South Korean travel YouTuber Cho Jin-woo, known as "Jin's Travel," died Wednesday in a hit-and-run accident in Bolivia. He was 33.
Cho was riding his bicycle in El Alto early that morning when he was struck by a large cargo truck, according to news reports.
The truck driver reportedly fled the scene but was arrested by police several hours later. He told police he had not seen Cho on his bicycle. A breath alcohol test showed no alcohol in his system.
Since launching his YouTube channel in 2020, Cho had shared videos documenting his cycling adventures around the world, attracting around 66,000 subscribers.
From March 31, 2022, to Sept. 4, 2023, he spent 523 days cycling across Europe, covering approximately 23,200 kilometers through 36 countries.
Bolivia was one of the stops on his latest cycling journey through Latin America, which began in Guatemala in March.
His final YouTube post, uploaded Sept. 25, featured photos of him standing beside his bicycle, adorned with a South Korean flag, on a road in the Peruvian Andes.
"Our entire family is preparing to leave for Bolivia immediately. We ask for your support as we work to bring Jin-woo safely back to Korea. Your words of comfort would mean a great deal to us. We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts," Cho's older brother wrote in an Instagram post for his brother's subscribers.
