A notice warning tenants of a women-only residential building that inviting men overnight could lead to lease termination has sparked online debate, with some defending the policy.
The notice gained attention after a social media user who identified as a delivery worker shared a photo of it and questioned whether management had gone too far by posting the warning in a hallway.
The notice reads: “Men are not allowed to stay overnight. This is a women-only residence. Please report any violations. Your lease will be terminated in accordance with the terms of your contract.”
Several people defended the restriction, arguing that tenants had chosen to live in the building knowing it was reserved for women.
“What is wrong with reporting a man entering a women-only building?” one commenter wrote. Another asked, “What if you are paying higher rent to live in a women-only building, only for men to start coming in?”
A man's visit would not automatically be grounds for eviction. Whether management could terminate a tenant’s lease would depend on the contract and whether it contains any restrictions on male visitors or overnight stays, as well as the nature of the violation in each case.
Residents can raise concerns about visitors, noise or threatening behavior with management and provide records of any incidents.
