Ju Ji-hoon and Choo Young-woo set to reprise their roles in the hit Netflix drama
Netflix announced Monday that it will produce the second and third seasons of "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" simultaneously, with a member of Lovelyz newly joining the series' central trio.
According to the streamer, Jung will take over the role of Cheon Jang-mi, a veteran nurse who forms the show's central trio alongside brilliant surgeon Baek Gang-hyeok (Ju Ji-hoon) and his protege Yang Jae-won (Choo Young-woo). Both Ju and Choo are set to reprise their roles.
The character was previously portrayed by actor Ahn Ha-young. Netflix confirmed her departure in September amid controversy over her remarks about her great-grandfather's activities during Japan's colonial rule of Korea.
Ahn faced backlash in August for speaking favorably about her great-grandfather, Ahn Sang-ho, who had ties to a pro-Japanese organization during the colonial period. She later apologized, explaining that her understanding of his past had largely been shaped by family accounts.
The controversy also cost Ahn several advertising deals and public-facing projects.
Meanwhile, Netflix added that director Lee Do-yoon will return to direct and write Season 2. He will also helm Season 3, cowriting the script with emerging screenwriter Tomasi.
Premiere dates for the two upcoming seasons have yet to be announced.
Released in 2025, "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" emerged as a global hit for Netflix. In its second week, from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, 2025, the medical drama amassed 82.7 million viewing hours and 11.9 million views, topping Netflix's global Top 10 chart for non-English TV shows and ranking third across all TV titles.
