Police received more than 1,100 domestic violence reports a day during last year’s Chuseok holiday, about 44 percent more than the annual daily average, according to National Police Agency data.
The seven-day holiday brought 8,017 reports, or an average of 1,145 a day, compared with 793 a day across 2025. The figures were among police data obtained by Rep. Kwon Young-jin of the People Power Party.
The holiday increase was not confined to last year. During Chuseok in 2024, police received an average of 1,049 reports a day, nearly 62 percent above that year’s daily average of 648.
The holiday averages in 2022 and 2023 were each about 48 percent higher than their respective annual averages.
Reports during Chuseok have also risen over time.
The daily holiday average increased from 914 in 2021 to 1,145 in 2025, a rise of about 25 percent. Last year’s holiday generated the highest total number of reports over the five years, though the holiday's length varied by year.
The police have been carrying out an 11-day Chuseok security operation from Sept. 17 through Sunday.
It includes advance checks involving domestic violence, child abuse, stalking and dating violence, as well as measures to protect victims when reports come in.
