Presidential chief of staff offers to step down

Kang Hoon-sik, chief of staff for President Lee Jae Myung, has offered to step down from his post, according to Seong Ghi-hong, senior presidential secretary for public relations and communications, on Monday.

Kang extended his offer to the president Monday morning, according to Seong.

The news comes weeks after Kim Yong-beom, chief secretary for policy at Cheong Wa Dae, stepped down amid controversies surrounding South Korea's launch of single-stock exchange-traded fund products.

Two out of three top presidential aide positions will remain vacant if Kang's resignation is accepted.
