Suspected killer of Chinese student made unwanted advances on another student: report

The 31-year-old Chinese man accused of murdering a Chinese graduate student is believed to have approached other students from the country as well, abusing his position as a university lecturer and attempting to coerce victims into romantic relationships with him.

Zheng Changsheng, whose identity was revealed by police Tuesday, allegedly made unwanted advances on a graduate student in September 2023, according to local broadcaster Daegu MBC. When she turned him down, Zheng reportedly sent a message via another student that he could stop her from graduating.

Multiple female students from China filed complaints to the university, and the staff issued him a warning.

Zheng reportedly continued to send the Chinese students messages such as "the professors will look after you more if you are with me" even after the university's warning. The woman initially approached by Zheng said he offered to help her with a paper at his home.

The university is currently conducting its own investigation to identify additional victims.

Zheng is under investigation for murdering a 25-year-old Chinese woman at his home in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, on Aug. 20. He is believed to have attempted to hinder the investigation by disguising himself as a woman and going to Dongdaegu Station.

He faces charges including murder, mutilation of a body, abandonment of a body and obstruction of public duties by fraudulent means.
