SK Networks has brought back former CEO and Chairman Choi Shin-won in an advisory role.
The decision to appoint him as honorary chairman was approved by the board Thursday, SK Networks said Friday.
Choi will serve as a management mentor, advising on mid- to long-term strategy and exploring ways to create synergies across the company’s businesses.
He is also expected to help reinforce the firm’s corporate culture based on SKMS, or SK Management System, while sharing its core values with employees and stakeholders.
The company added that Choi will be involved in social contribution activities both within and outside the organization.
“Choi will support the company’s innovation efforts and contribute as a business leader committed to corporate social responsibility,” a SK Networks official said.
His return follows a turbulent period. In May, the Supreme Court finalized his conviction on charges including embezzlement and breach of trust, handing down a prison sentence of two years and six months.
He was later pardoned in August as part of a Liberation Day amnesty.
Choi Shin-won is a cousin of SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and the second son of the late Choi Jong-gun, founder of SK Group.
