A man in his 20s was killed Thursday night by an incoming subway train after he is believed to have gone onto the tracks and lain there for reasons yet to be confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 8:57 p.m. at Jung-dong Station on the Gyeongin Line, located in Bucheon, some 20 kilometers west of Seoul, according to the Korea Railroad Corporation. It led to a temporary delay in trains bound for Incheon from Seoul.
The 560 passengers onboard the train were transferred to another train, and the accident caused no further injuries or damage to other facilities.
Police officials are investigating the exact cause of the accident, such as how the man was able to get onto the tracks. The station in question does not have platform screen doors, and officials believe that the victim entered the tracks without authorization.
