Teaching remains top career choice for students

교직, 학생 희망 직업 1위 유지

Teaching continues to be the most popular career choice among South Korean middle and high school students, despite ongoing incidents challenging teachers’ authority.

교권 침해 논란이 잇따르는 가운데서도 교직은 여전히 국내 중·고등학생들이 가장 선호하는 직업으로 나타났다.

High school students are increasingly interested in careers as biological scientists and researchers, rising from seventh to third place.

고등학생들 사이에서는 생명과학자와 연구직에 대한 관심이 크게 늘어 기존 7위에서 3위로 상승했다.

A survey of 37,408 students, parents and teachers found that 70.5 percent of students expressed a preferred career. Satisfaction with career-related activities was highest for hands-on experiences in lower grades and career clubs in high school.

학생과 학부모, 교사 등 3만7,408명을 대상으로 한 설문조사 결과, 전체 학생의 70.5%가 희망 직업이 있다고 응답했다. 진로 관련 활동에 대한 만족도는 초등 및 중학교 저학년에서는 체험 중심 활동이, 고등학교에서는 진로 동아리 활동이 가장 높은 것으로 조사됐다.

University aspirations fell to 64.9 percent, while interest in more immediate employment rose to 15.6 percent, prompting schools to emphasize the need for diverse, tailored career programs and professional support. Boys in elementary school showed the strongest preference to be athletes.

대학 진학을 희망하는 비율은 64.9%로 하락한 반면, 졸업 후 곧바로 취업을 희망하는 비율은 15.6%로 증가했다. 이에 따라 학교 현장에서는 학생 개개인에 맞춘 다양한 진로 프로그램과 전문적인 진로 상담 지원의 필요성이 강조되고 있다. 한편 초등학교 남학생의 경우 운동선수를 희망 직업으로 꼽는 비율이 가장 높게 나타났다.
