Man who killed 2 says he did it because of anger, but can't remember why

A 35-year-old man who fatally stabbed his stepbrother and a store clerk told police that he did so because he was uncontrollably angry, but said he did not remember what upset him.

"It appears that the suspect committed the crime due to a burst of emotion. ... He has said that he does not remember the details of the incident," said officials of the Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi Province. Police said Wednesday they will forward the murder case to the Ansan branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office on Thursday.

The suspect is accused of stabbing his stepbrother to death at their residence in Siheung at around 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 12, injuring their mother on the hand as she tried to stop the attack. About 10 minutes later, he went into a nearby convenience store and fatally stabbed a store clerk in her 20s, with whom he was not acquainted.

The victim was taken to a hospital for medical care but died the following day.

A police investigation found that the suspect had been diagnosed with an undisclosed mental illness in April of 2024, but stopped taking his medication soon after. Around this time, he moved in with his mother, stepbrother and stepfather, staying at home most of the time without a job or contact with other people.
