The 9th Harbin 2025 Asian Winter Games began on Feb. 7 at the International Convention Exhibition and Sports Center in Harbin, China. This marks the first Asian Winter Games since the 2017 Sapporo event.

First held in 1986, the Asian Winter Games provide a major platform for Asian athletes in winter sports. South Korea previously hosted the games in Gangwon Province in 1999, an experience that helped pave the way for hosting the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

South Korea has dispatched a total of 222 athletes and is aiming for second place in the overall standings, with expectations of a strong medal haul in events such as short-track speedskating, figure skating, alpine skiing and snowboarding.

South Korea has consistently remained in the top 4 in all eight previous Winter Asian Games.
