TVXQ's Yunho begins military service

July 21, 2015 - 18:28 By 안성미

Yunho, a member of K-pop duo TVXQ, enlisted for his mandatory military service on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old singer arrived at the training camp located in Yangju, Gyeonggi province around 2 p.m. to begin his term. He was accompanied by his family, friends and his manager, his label SM Entertainment said.

Earlier, he had withheld the exact time and place of the enrollment from the public with the intention of having a low-key enlistment, but many fans still gathered outside the camp to see the singer enter the service.

He was set to begin five weeks of basic training as part of his 21 months of mandatory military service.

He is tentatively scheduled to be discharged from service on April 20, 2017.
Changmin, also of the duo, is planning to join the military before the end of this year.

Ahead of the service, Yunho bid farewell to fans at the TVXQ concerts on June 13-14 in Seoul.

All able-bodied men aged between 18 and 35 have to serve in the military for about two years in a country that is still technically at war with North Korea.
