Posco renovates special-ed classrooms at 8 schools across cities

Posco has renovated special education classrooms at eight elementary schools across Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province, Gwangyang in Jeonnam-Gwangju and Seoul.

The steelmaker launched the renovations through its “Classroom Growing Together” program, which supports public elementary schools with special education classes in the three regions where Posco operates.

The company accepted applications in April, then conducted on-site assessments and interviewed special education teachers in May and June.

It selected the eight schools based on factors including the age of school buildings, the number of students receiving special education, and schools’ previous and planned government support.

Posco completed the work during the summer vacation, allowing students to begin the second semester in renovated classrooms.

The project reflected students’ daily routines and teachers’ feedback. Posco reinforced cushioned flooring and floor heating and added padded wall panels, designated calming spaces, and storage areas.

A special education teacher said small classroom inconveniences can have a greater impact on students receiving special education, adding that a more comfortable environment allows teachers to focus more closely on students.

The company plans to extend the program to middle schools next year.
