A photo showing a man's failed attempt to board a subway by slipping a pizza box through the doors has gone viral, with many online users praising the subway driver for preventing him from boarding.
Under the Railroad Safety Act, disrupting the opening or closing of subway doors without valid reason is prohibited and can result in a fine of 1.5 million won ($1,114). But such incidents continue to occur in South Korea, periodically raising concerns about passenger safety.
A witness posted about the incident on X on Wednesday, including a photo of the pizza box stuck in the closed doors of a Line 2 subway. According to the post, the man pushed the box through first, intending to board, but the doors closed before he could enter and the train departed, leaving him on the platform.
Most online reactions were amused, with many joking that "the subway train stole the pizza from its owner."
However, many also expressed safety concerns, noting that passengers forcing objects or themselves through closing subway doors remains a persistent issue that can cause accidents.
One commenter wrote: "This should be a lesson for people who shove things into closing doors. The subway doors are not like an elevator with an open, close button. Furthermore, Line 2 comes every three minutes. Is waiting really that hard?"
Another comment framed the incident as a fitting outcome for someone "trying to steal other people's time to save his own."
