Hyundai Motor Group has donated four firefighting robots to the National Fire Agency to enhance firefighter safety, the automaker said Wednesday.

The robots were developed to search for victims and help contain fires in areas that are difficult for crews to access due to intense heat and thick smoke. They are based on Hyundai Rotem’s multifunctional unmanned vehicle platform.

Each robot is equipped with heat-resistant tires and a six-wheel independently driven in-wheel motor system to improve mobility over complex terrain. They also feature high-tech equipment, including an infrared sensor-based vision-enhancing camera, a waterproof cover and a built-in spray system.
