Prosecutors on Wednesday indicted the daughter of former President Moon Jae-in for driving under the influence in 2024 and illegally running a short-term rental business since 2022.

Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office indicted Moon Da-hye without detention on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and the Public Health Control Act.

The 41-year-old was referred to the prosecution in November 2024 after her car collided with a taxi as she was changing lanes in Yongsan District, Seoul, while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in October. The taxi driver sustained minor injuries and her blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.14 percent, exceeding the 0.08 percent threshold for driver’s license revocation.

She was referred to the prosecution the same month on suspicions of operating an Airbnb business on Jeju Island in 2022. She ran the business at a house under her name without any official registration. The officials considered evidence that the Airbnb business was operated in a “long-term” manner and that she raked in “hefty profits" as reasons to indict.

If found guilty, Moon Da-hye could face up to two years in prison or up to 20 million won ($13,804) in fines for failing to register her accommodation business.

Though prosecutors indicted Moon for driving under the influence, they did not charge her with aggravated assault by DUI. The evidence does not point to such crimes, they said.

The daughter of the ex-president has remained largely out of the public spotlight, while Moon was in office from 2017 to 2022.
