Two Thai siblings working in South Korea won the jackpot for the 1,155th edition of Korean Lotto, Thai news outlets reported Tuesday, with one of the winners preparing to return home with his prize money.
The two men won 4.06 billion won ($2.8 million) in the state-run weekly Lotto 6/45. They are expected to have received around 2.7 billion won after tax, and said will share the winnings between them.
The two men are currently working in the city of Paju, 28 kilometers northwest of Seoul.
It was reported that the one of the brothers, from the Ban Phue district of Udon Thani province in Thailand, called their mother on Monday to tell her he was coming home. The mother initially thought he might be in trouble, but was told about the jackpot. She also revealed that the other winner was also her son.
He also told his mother that he will work for another five to six months until the end of his current employment contract, and come home after completing his four-year contract. When the mother asked him why he would not take a day off after the big win, he answered, "Why would I?"
The family is waiting for the winner to return home before making any decisions on how to spend the money.
