You Yeong-gwang, author of the breakout bestseller "The Rainfall Market,” returns with a YA novel that intertwines self-discovery, fantasy and adventure.

The author wrote the draft of “The Wishseekers” eight years ago and shared it with just 350 readers through a 2021 crowdfunding campaign. Now, it's seeing its official release.

The story follows Paul, a blind boy struggling to survive each day with his alcoholic father in the desolate Castle of Wandering. Paul's life takes a turn when he encounters Hal, an elderly man who has lost a leg. Hal tells him of a mythical island where the Goddess of Happiness lies asleep, promising to grant any wish.

Driven by hope, Paul sets out on a journey to the island. He is joined by Pratt, a mysterious boy who claims to have fallen from the sky and carries a map to the island, and Jacob, a one-armed swordsman. Their adventure takes them through the Swamp of Despair and the Valley of Hopelessness where they face not only external challenges but also their inner wounds.

Part self-help fable, part fantasy epic, the coming-of-age tale explores themes of resilience, connection and the pursuit of happiness. Its layered narrative resonates as much with adults as it does with younger readers.

You's debut novel "The Rainfall Market" was a runaway hit, selling over 100,000 copies in Korea. Set to be translated into 20 languages, it was published in the UK in November and its US release is slated for Jan. 21.
